In Plymouth, because of a 2-2 tie vote, Stop & Shop, LLC got no recommendation from the Planning Board for a special permit to construct a wind turbine behind their supermarket at Miles Standish Plaza just off exit 6.

Planning Board Chairman Paul McAlduff, explains that Planning Staff gave the Board three options.

“One was to approve it, one was to deny it and one was to approve it with the DEP’s recommendations.”

Those recommendations include that the applicant curtail wind turbine activity during winter months from 1AM to 3AM.

Board member Marc Garrett was not present. Tim Grandy moved to deny without prejudice and Bill Wennerberg seconded. The resulting vote was two to two with Grandy and Wennerberg in favor and Malcolm MacGregor and Paul McAlduff against.

So, in effect the case goes to the Zoning Board of Appeals with no recommendation.

Mark Macomber is the Energy Project Manager for Stop and Shop:

“I think that given the fact that we’ve proposed some mitigation features here I continue to believe this is a really strong project and I hope that we get a favorable decision from the ZBA.

The ZBA is scheduled to hear the case on June 19th.
