Turbine talks heat up with a concept by Premier Kathleen Wynne

(Owen Sound) – In an effort to calm the waters after the provincial Budget, Premier Kathleen Wynne announced the concept of “Willing Host” or those who want Wind Turbines in their community.

Those communities that didn’t want Wind Turbines could become Unwilling Hosts and thought the government would then look elsewhere to develop their wind farms.

37 communities declared themselves unwilling hosts.

Since the Budget is now passed, Energy Minister Bob Chiarelli has announced there are clear plans for municipal consultation and the province still retains the right to override any municipal concerns, even if they are unwilling hosts.

The whole issue… was tackled on Bayshore Broadcasting News with proponents, and opponents both arguing the proposed changes to the Green Energy act.

Ont. Reg. Director of Canadian Wind Energy Association, Brandy Gianneta, says wind turbine companies have matured and want municipal involvement in the process.

Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker says it may be a new government but nothing has changed, municipalities want government to understand they don’t want wind turbines in their community and they are not welcome but government is not listening.

Walker says a moratorium is needed to make the Green Energy Act functional and fair for everyone.

Jane Wilson of Wind concerns Ontario says, health and property value concerns are forefront and they want control back so they can protect their communities.
