We must stand tall against the invasion of giant wind turbines

Shropshire Star | June 6, 2013 | www.shropshirestar.com

Well done to the people of Powys for organising a mass protest against the absolutely disgraceful wrecking of Montgomeryshire with gigantic wind turbines to supply north-west England with sporadic electricity.

With hundreds of proposed 475 feet high monsters, only 50 feet shorter than Blackpool Tower, Montgomeryshire is going to be totally destroyed. Common sense dictates that each gigantic machine will be visible from all high ground within 30 miles.

Therefore, they will be easily visible from Snowdonia and The Wrekin and Clee Hills of Shropshire.

Why should these wind turbines be in Powys, or even anywhere in Wales, to supply Manchester? Carwyn Jones and his fellow Welsh politicians, of all parties, should be fighting to improve Wales, not to wreck its most glorious natural scenery and dependent, vital tourist economy.

The tourist economy of Snowdonia will be severely damaged because its natural panoramic vistas are being ruined by huge industrialised machines.

Wales only uses 2000MW of electricity, and 2000MW is being fed into the National Grid by Pembroke gas-fired power station in the far south-west of Wales.

Therefore, it stands to reason that every single wind turbine in Wales , as well as Wylfa and Deeside gas-fired power stations must be supplying England, not Wales!

It is a complete fabrication that wind turbines in Wales are supplying local Welsh needs, as has been claimed.

Of course, supporters would say that, wouldn’t they? They’re making money from the huge green subsidies taken from the bills of hard-pressed electricity consumers.

Come on Powys and North Wales – let’s have a tsunami of protest everywhere.
