Xcel moves ahead with axing New Era Wind contracts

NSP, now part of Xcel Energy, said it would seek judgement in Minnesota District Court to declare that the company is justified in terminating power purchasing agreements with New Era Wind.

NSP gave New Era a deadline of May 12 to begin resolving issues preventing the construction of a 78-megawatt wind farm in Goodhue County, but New Era did not respond, according to a May 24 letter from Xcel to the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission.

NSP said it would avoid court action if New Era voluntarily agreed to end the purchasing agreements.

The PUC will hold a public hearing to consider New Era’s request to extend its Certificate of Need to build the wind farm 9:30 a.m. June 20 at 350 Metro Square Building, 121 Seventh Place East, St. Paul.
