Wind turbine proposed to be built in Waltham-on-the-Wolds

Proposals have been submitted to build a 252-feet high wind turbine in Waltham-on-the-Wolds.

The turbine is proposed to be built at Station Farm in Station Road.

Applicants Craig and Neil Birch, of landowners AR Birch & Son, initially want to erect a temporary 50m-high wind monitoring mast at the site for six months before installing the turbine.

The proposed site is west of the A607, about two kilometres north of Waltham.

An environmental report submitted as part of their planning application to Melton Council said: “The turbine can be anticipated to meet the equivalent annual average domestic electricity needs of 60.5 per cent of Waltham-on-the-Wolds and Thorpe Arnold parish households.

“The proposed location is technically and economically viable and site has been designed to minimise environmental and social impacts where possible.

“Impacts on landscape and visual amenity are inevitable as a result of any wind turbine development, as with any tall structure in an open location, but must be weighed against the benefits of such a development.

“Given the nature of the land form and good levels of vegetation within the landscape, in general terms the visibility of the turbine would be confined to an area local to the proposed site.”

The application will be determined by Melton Council in due course.
