Wind farm opponents gearing up

Written by SETH SLABAUGH | The Star Press | May 29, 2013 |

SELMA – Wind farm opponents handed out pin-back buttons reading “Grow corn not wind turbines,” sold yard bearing the message “Save our homes” and signed petitions during a meeting Tuesday night at Selma Elementary School.

One reason for the gathering, which attracted about 125 people, was to rally opponents to attend an upcoming public hearing of the city-county plan commission at which a vote will be taken on wind farm regulations.

“At least you have politicians willing to listen,” Jim Leffler, one of several Tipton County wind farm opponents who spoke at the meeting, told the audience.

Nancy Carney, another Tipton County wind farm opponent, also commended Delaware County officials for attending the meeting.

Delaware County Council members Kevin Nemyer, Scott Alexander and Mike Jones, along with Delaware County Commissioner Sherry Riggin, were among county officials on hand. County Commissioners James King and Larry Bledsoe attended a similar meeting held earlier this month at Desoto.
