Shepham Wind Farm – Local democracy at work

Sussex Express | 29 May 2013 | www.sussexexpress.co.uk

The ‘Stop Shepham Wind Farm Action Group’ would like to publicly thank residents who made their objections known to officials and political representatives, the Polegate Residents Association councillors who lead the campaign and, in particular, the local politicians who voted against the revised GTR Wind Farm application at the recent planning meeting.

It was interesting to learn during the public planning committee’s discussions, that despite repeated requests, GTR had not consulted residents living closest to the proposed turbines, nor had they even informed the developers of the brand new housing estate at Dittons Road, Polegate.

In this estate – still being built – many residents would have their properties blighted by being just a few hundred metres from the turbines.

Indeed, some residents had already moved into ‘first-phase’ homes by the time they discovered, to their horror, that this planning application was in progress so close to their properties.

No-one had informed them of these plans when they were making their purchase.

We do hope that GTR will take due notice of the strength of feeling of local people and local parish councils representing those directly affected.

We also hope that GTR will respect the planning committee’s decision, and not pursue their application any further.
