Wind turbine awareness group to hold public meeting

So what’s it like to live in the shadow of large wind turbines? A Co. Wexford man who lives beside a wind farm will tell people of his experience at a public meeting to be held in Lisgood Community Hall on Wednesday next, May 29th at 8.30pm.

The meeting has been organised by the Ardglass Wind Turbine Action Awareness Group and comes on foot of the recent move by Ardglass Wind Farm Ltd. to seek planning permission from Cork County Council for a large scale wind farm development in the area. The height of the turbines is a particular concern for area residents, who pointed out that they are 115 feet higher than Dublin’s landmark ‘Spire’.

The man living beside the wind farm in Wexford, Philip Hickey, has spoken on the subject on Prime Time and also recently on TV3. Planning consultant, wind energy expert and part-time farmer, Peter Crossan from Co. Cavan, will also address the meeting.

The awareness group was set up last August to voice the concerns of local residents to the planned development. They say there’s been a lack of consultation by the developers. Other concerns are the visual impact, noise impact, shadow flicker and the fear that their homes will be devalued by being so close to such large turbines.

All residents from the region are invited to attend.
