Open houses for two proposed Peace Region wind farms

energeticcity.c

The B.C. Environmental Assessment Office is currently looking for public input on two proposed wind farms in the Peace Region. The first is the Taylor Wind Project, 10 kilometres south of the District, and the second is the Sundance Wind Project, 20 kilometres north of Tumbler Ridge.

The proposed project near Taylor in Treaty 8 territory would include between 130 and 235 individual turbines that would produce up to 400 megawatts. The proposed Sundance project is also in Treaty 8 territory, and would include between 85 and 147 individual turbines that would produce up to 250 megawatts.

Both projects have submitted their draft Application Information Requirements, which specify what studies will be conducted and information will be needed for their applications for an environmental assessment certificate. The public has 30 days starting May 29, 2013, to comment on the draft AIRs to help the EAO make sure all the potential effects from the proposed projects will be addressed.

At this point, the most important feedback in needed about what studies and information should be required for the environmental assessment.

Public open houses will be held for each project, with presentations by both the EAO and the proponents, and residents will be able to ask questions. The open house for the Taylor Wind Project will be held at the Community Hall on June 5 from 4 to 8 p.m., while the Sundance Wind Project’s open house will be held at the Trend Mountain Hotel and Conference Centre in Tumbler Ridge on June 4 from 4 to 8 p.m. Presentations will begin at 6 p.m.

Public comments for both projects will be accepted from May 29 to June 28 through the following ways:
