Brockton council declares itself not a willing host

Brockton is not a “willing host” for industrial wind turbines.

Council voted unaminously last week to support that position and send notice to the provincial government.
Coun. Anne-Louise Gibbons pushed for the motion and said afterward that the motion “gives solidarity with other municipalities that have already approved similar motions.

Gibbons said it also pressures the governing Liberals to “stick by (their) words that a municipality has to be a willing host”.

The motion includes preambles that state the municipality “has received a clear message from its residents that they are not willing to host IWTs in Brockton” and that the province “recently conveyed the government’s desire to limit IWT Projects to communities that are willing hosts”.

Brockton’s motion will be forwarded to Premier Kathleen Wynne, Minister of the Enviroment, Minister of Energy, Minister of Rural Affairs, and Bruce-Huron MPP Lisa Thompson.
