Residents fear more turbine torment

Lancaster Guardian | 9 May 2013 | www.lancasterguardian.co.uk

People living out in the countryside beyond Lancaster University are gearing up for a second battle over a wind turbine.

Residents failed to stop the university’s 328ft turbine, which was erected in October.

Betty Parkinson, 84, who lives on Hazelrigg Lane, this week sent us a photograph showing how the turbine looms over her property.

She said she had struggled to sleep since it went up and fears that the electro-magnetic waves being produced may be to blame.

Mrs Parkinson has now raised fears over plans for another 180ft turbine planned by Thomas Meadow Mushrooms Ltd at Conder Side Farm on Littlefell Lane.

“A lot of the houses on these lanes will be sandwiched between these two, with nowhere to look without seeing one of these ugly monsters,” she said.

Nineteen people last week met at the home of Littlefell Lane resident Pauline Fisher to discuss how best to fight the latest application.

Mrs Fisher said there were concerns over the visual impact, noise, flicker and TV interference.

She added: “How many more turbines will blight the landscape if this is allowed?”

Nobody from Thomas Meadow Mushrooms was available for comment.
