March against turbine threat

Concerned villagers have united to fight the positioning of wind turbines near Drayton Parslow.

On Saturday, May 4, residents of Drayton Parslow, Newton Longville and Mursley in North Bucks marched to show their opposition for the location for an industrial wind farm.

They were joined by Vale MP and House of Commons Speaker, John Bercow.

The march took the protesters to the site of the wind farm near the historic village of Salden. This was the site of the 17th century Salden House, home to Queen Elizabeth I’s Chancellor, Sir John Fortescue.

The campaign to fight the turbines is being led by the Stop Salden Turbines committee, formed by local residents and with Mr Bercow as president.

Mr Bercow addressed the protestors and repeated his opposition to on-shore wind farms in general and specifically to the chosen location.

A Stop Salden Turbines spokesman said: “This haven for wildlife is situated in an area of considerable natural beauty and is utilised by walkers, horse-riders, ornithologists and those involved in all countryside pursuits.”

North Bucks Wind Energy, a subsidiary of the national company West Coast Energy, has permission to erect an anemometer mast on land at Salden.

This is the first step in the construction of four 125 metre (413ft) industrial scale wind turbines on the site.
