RUTLAND – The Planning Board is holding a public hearing at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, in Community Hall Annex to discuss a proposed wind turbine bylaw that voters will consider at the May 18 annual town meeting.

The purposes of the bylaw is to provide by special permit for the construction and operation of wind facilities and to provide standards for the placement, design, construction, modification and removal of wind facilities that address public health, safety, minimize impact on scenic, natural and historic resources of the town and provide adequate financial assurance for decommissioning.

The bylaw would apply to all commercial and on-site wind facilities proposed to be constructed after the effective date of this bylaw. It does not apply to stand alone turbines under 60 kilowatts of rated capacity.
