Polegate wind farm refused

Eastbourne Herald | 08/05/2013 | www.eastbourneherald.co.uk

Plans for the Shepham Wind Farm at Polegate have been refused by Wealden District Council this morning (May 8).

The three turbines, which would have been built on land off Shepham Lane in Polegate, were recommended for approval by planning officers but councillors on the planning committee voted against the proposal.

They refused the application after hearing from concerned local residents who said the turbines, which would have been taller than Big Ben, would have a detrimental impact on their lives. Noise, flicker and the impact on the South Downs National Park and Pevensey Levels were all raised as concerns.

Yes to Shepham Wind Farm also spoke about the need for renewable energy at the planning meeting.

A motion to refuse the plan was carried with seven votes to four. The turbines were refused on the grounds that they would be dominant and intrusive on the landscape.

See the full story and reaction to the decision in Friday’s Herald.
