North East wind farm critics to raise concerns

Residents concerned about plans to build a commercial wind farm in North East Township say they will raise those concerns with township planners and supervisors Monday.

Planners meet at the township municipal building, 10300 W. Main Road, at 7 p.m. Township supervisors meet at 7:30 p.m.

“We’re going to ask a series of questions that really demand answers and so far have not been addressed,” said Paul Crowe, of Neighbors for a Responsible North East.

Neighbors for a Responsible North East wants wind turbines prohibited with 1,300 feet of neighboring property lines and roads and within 1 mile of a neighborhood of six or more homes.

The township’s proposed ordinance to regulate commercial wind farms would prohibit turbines within 1,500 feet of the home of a neighbor not leasing land for the project and within 550 feet – for a 500-foot turbine – of roads and neighboring property lines.

Residents are also concerned about potential noise and flickering from turbines and possible adverse effects on neighboring property values, Crowe said.
