Wind farm firm to appeal over Molesworth turbines

A public inquiry may have to be held into a plan by wind farm firm RWE npower renewables to put up six turbines at Molesworth.

The firm has launched an appeal because of Huntingdonshire District Council’s “non-determination” of its planning application.

RWE launched its plan for the turbines on a site to the west of RAF Molesworth in June last year and it has still not been dealt with by the council.

It originally wanted to put up eight turbines on the site, but reduced the number to six and decided to move them further away from local villages after getting feedback from the public.

Dee Nunn, project manager, said: “If planning consent is granted, Molesworth Wind Farm could offer up to £6.8 million worth of contracts to businesses in Huntingdonshire alone.

“The wind farm has the potential to supply more than 7,800 average UK homes with renewable energy.”

RWE said they were keen that the plan moved forward and had taken the decision to appeal.

A spokesman for the district council said the plan had been scheduled to be considered by the Development Management Panel on June 17 and this would still take place.

The panel will be asked to indicate the decision it would have made on the application and the ourcome would form the basis of the council’s case at appeal.
