Will ‘flawed’ survey sink wind farm at The Delph?

Council officers are asking wind farm bosses to withdraw controversial plans for nine turbines at The Delph, West Pinchbeck, because of a “flawed” ecology survey.

It’s a battle won for protest group Stop West Pinchbeck Wind Farm, but it may not be the end of the war against the turbines which would stand 126m high – twice the height of Nelson’s Column.

Tony Fear, from the protest group, said it’s too early to celebrate because no one knows what Wind Ventures will do next, but his group is confident it can supply the council with proper planning grounds to reject the plans.

Earlier this month, the protest group published evidence from its expert Dr Timothy Read revealing “major flaws” in the way Wind Ventures conducted its wildlife surveys, showing they did not comply with guidance from the Government’s experts, Natural England. It said then the flawed data would push the project back by at least a year.

South Holland District Council’s development manager Richard Fidler has listed Dr Read’s report among comments submitted by Natural England, Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust and others to ask Wind Ventures to withdraw the plans – or be served with a legal notice forcing the company to give proper ecological data.
