Objections over giant turbine dwarf support

Times & Citizen | 30 April 2013 | www.bedfordtoday.co.uk

Concerned residents have submitted 156 letters of objection to plans to build a giant wind turbine in front of the Ravensden water tower.

According to Bedford Borough Council planners, the number of objections dwarfs the number of letters of support, which currently totals just five.

The proposed wind turbine would stand nearly four times the height of the Angel Of The North and would be built on land owned by farmer Ted Wootton.

Mike Hudson, who is coordinating the protest on behalf of the Ravensden villagers, said: “I’m very much encouraged by the outstanding response from folks living in our village, neighbouring villages and outlying dwellings in a wide radius around them, in commenting on the planning application to build a wind turbine here in Ravensden.”

He added: “I would still encourage anyone who hasn’t yet registered their comment with the council to do so.

“This can be done right up until the planning committee meeting, which has been delayed in view of the strength of opinion and won’t now be until 3 June at the very earliest.”
