Residents to oppose wind turbine plan

Residents have started a campaign to stop a wind turbine being constructed near Ellesmere.
Proposals reveal the 500kW turbine would be built near The Newnes, at the side of the A495, and will stand at 338ft to the tip of the blade and will be used to generate energy that will be put into the national grid.
Intech Limited, the company behind the turbine, held a consultation meeting last month in Ellesmere for residents.
James Meacock, 43, is a campaigner from The Newnes and said: “As a community we feel the size is out of keeping with the countryside.
“We are not anti-green, it’s just the size that is the main issue. It’s going to be taller than Big Ben,” he added.
The proposed wind turbine will be three times taller than the already existing turbine in Tetchill.
“We have posters that have been put up in shops in Ellesmere, around 500 copies of an A5 leaflet have been given out to homes around the town, and we have been attending council meetings to voice our concerns.
“We just want to raise awareness as to how big it is going to be,” added Mr Meacock.
No date has yet been set for the application to go through planning, but the campaigners hope that as many people as possible will attend the public meeting that is set to be held in the near future.
