Wind power honeymoon over

Van Wert and Paulding counties have seen their landscape change thanks to a couple of big wind projects that have gone up in the past few years.

But not all is rosy for a couple of township trustees in Van Wert county.

A couple of Hoaglin township trustees are questioning whether Iberdrola Renewables have lived up to their part of the bargain when they installed 152 wind turbines and two electrical substations.

Thirty three of the turbines lie in Hoaglin township.

While many in the area embraced the new green wind power it’s “honeymoon over” for Hoaglin township trustees Wayne Kemler and Milo Schaffner.

Kemler and Schaffner want Iberdrola Renewables to pick up the tab to pave 3 and a half miles of Hoaglin township roads that they say weren’t properly repaired.

The repairs, while they may be as strong as the previous pavement, aren’t as esthetically pleasing.

Iberdrola Renewables plant manager Neil Voje, says they’ve lived up to their part of the bargain and have made the necessary repairs, even the Van Wert County Engineer has signed off on the work.

Trustees also want some drainage issues addressed near the Blue Creek Wind Farm substation on Fife road.

So far no lawsuits have been filed in connection with the disagreement, but that is an option trustees might consider.
