A crowd of about 60 lively residents filled council chambers last night.

Bursts of applause and the occasional boo erupted from the audience as councillors voiced their opinions on a motion to declare the County an unwilling host for industrial wind turbines.

South Marysburgh Councillor Barb Proctor voted against the motion in turn stirring outbursts from the crowd as two of the controversial projects are proposed for that ward.

Proctor says she recognizes the majority of her constituents are opposed to wind developments. She says someone has to come forward and prove the whole County is against wind projects to change her mind.

Mayor Peter Mertens says this motion doesn’t affect the two projects still waiting in the wings.

In a recorded vote of 11 to 5 council declared the County an unwilling host.
