Wind turbine plans lodged with council

A planning application has been lodged for a wind turbine just north of the A9, within Strathallan.

The application, put forward by Aeolus Renewable Energy on behalf of Wallace Wind Limited, is for a single wind turbine of 49 metres high as well as a permanent access track to the site of the turbine on Balhaldie Farm, just north of Dunblane.

Applicants say the wind turbine is predicted to generate 538,000 to 956,000 kWh of electricity a year, the equivalent of supplying the approximate domestic needs of up to 224 average households each year.

Wallace Wind said Ltd: “The wind turbine would be visible in its immediate vicinity and to the north of the A9 within Strathallan.

There would be limited visibility beyond 10km of the application site.

“Although the wind turbine is located within the inventory boundary for the Battle of Sheriffmuir, there would be limited visibility from key locations within the battlefield site. The wind turbine would not be dominant or overbearing in views from the nearest non-involved residential properties.”

They claim the noise levels at the nearest non-involved properties will not exceed 35dB(A) at any time.

The applicants say the objective of the proposal is the generation of electricity from a renewable source, in line with the Scottish Government interim target of supplying the equivalent of 50% of electricity demand from renewable sources by 2015.

A spokesperson from Wallace Wind Ltd said: “One of the mechanisms to reduce greenhouse gas emissions employed by the Scottish Government is the Feed in Tariff which was introduced in April 2010 and is intended to encourage small scale renewable generation schemes, such as proposed at Balhaldie.”

The farm is not currently connected to the electricity distribution network, instead electrical power is provided by a diesel generator.

The proposed wind turbine would allow the farm to be connected to the electricity grid and enable the removal of the diesel generator.
