A campaigner who has helped fight off a series of proposed wind farms in the East Riding has been nominated for two awards.

David Hinde, 56, of Bempton, has been nominated for the East Riding Council’s Chairman’s Awards for environment and community.

In his letter of support, Peter Ayling, countryside officer for the East Yorkshire and Derwent area of the Ramblers’ Association, wrote: “It is becoming increasingly difficult to keep track of the increasing volume of wind farm applications, some of which are inappropriately sited, and I and many others have been significantly helped by information provided by Mr Hinde, who like me is a volunteer and works for the public interest.”

Mr Hinde, who is also Bridlington Town Crier, said: “The fact that communities from across the Wolds and organisations like the Ramblers’ Association have expressed their appreciation for all the advice and time in the ongoing efforts to protect the area and the communities gives me a big boost. I would like to thank everybody for their nominations.”

The winners will be named in a ceremony at Bridlington Spa on Tuesday, May 7.
