Windfarm developer RDS Element Power has asked the Scottish Government to decide whether proposals for up to seven wind turbines near Alyth should get the go-ahead.

A planning application for the windfarm on the registered organic Tullymurdoch Farm, 5.5km north west of Alyth, was submitted to Perth and Kinross Council (PKC) in August last year.

However, the local authority has yet to make a decision on the application, forcing the developers to appeal to the Scottish Government instead.

The Blairie understands that PKC was holding off on making a decision on the Tullymurdoch application in order to consider it in conjunction with proposals for a windfarm on the neighbouring Bamff estate.

The proposed site for the development at Tullymurdoch is also close to the existing windfarm at Drumderg.

Speaking to the Blairie, Douglas Hendry, project manager with RDS Element Power, said that his company was disappointed that PKC hadn’t made a decision.

He said: “We had agreed to two extensions to the decision-making timescale that PKC had requested but, when they asked for a third extension, we decided to go for a ‘non-determination’ status, which enables us to go to the Scottish Government.

“We therefore submitted all the information that we have already submitted to PKC to the Scottish Government’s Directorate for Planning and Environmental Appeals.

“The government’s reporter will visit the site and then decide on whether to make a decision at that point or hold a hearing should further clarification be needed.”.

A spokesperson for PKC confirmed: “The applicant has appealed to the Scottish Government’s Directorate for Planning and Environmental Appeals (DPEA).

“A report regarding the appeal will be submitted to the development management committee on April 24 seeking members’ agreement to defend the appeal based on the grounds in that report.”
