Duke-American Transmission Co. held open houses this week in Spanish Fork, Heber, Delta, Vernal, Duchesne and Nephi to inform locals about the Zephyr Power Transmission Project. DATC is proposing the project to connect high-quality renewable wind energy resources in Wyoming, over an 850-mile electric transmission line, to the Eldorado Valley, just south of Las Vegas.

In a pamphlet mailed to local residents, seven benefits of the project were listed, including giving southwestern states access to 3,000 megawatts of clean, renewable energy resulting in $600 million in annual savings to ratepayers in California markets; the route for the project is design to minimize impact on landowners and the environment and will create jobs during the three- to four-year construction period and contribute to the tax base in the four states involved, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah and Nevada.

The open houses were held to receive input from those impacted and for DATC to hear ways to minimize human and environmental impacts and preserve areas of particular scenic or historic value.

Anyone interested in more information about the project or how to get involved can visit www.ZephyrTransmissionProject.com. Comments about the project can be emailed to zephyr@datcllc.com, mailed to 3763 Howard Hughes Parkway, Suite 310, Las Vegas, NV, 89169-5923 or by calling (855) 221-7871.
