Deadline looms for wind farm submissions

Yorke Peninsula residents against plans to build what would be Australia’s largest wind farm say it is not too late to dump the project.

REpower Australia submitted an application for its 199-turbine wind farm near Black Point in January.

Public submissions to the Development Assessment Commission close today, with the developer expecting a decision from the State Government by mid-year.

Heartland Farmers Association spokeswoman Tania Stock says it supports renewable energy projects but does not want one in its area.

“We believe that the Government needs to work proactively with councils and local communities to identify suitable areas to place these types of industrial developments and there’s plenty of arid land or land of low production that’s sparsely populated that would be well suited for this type of investment,” she said.
