Fears over plans for wind turbine

A farmer from Llanwenog has applied for permission to build a 77-metre wind turbine on a field near the village.

The land is at Caeronnen, in between Llanwenog and Cwmsychbant, and to the south of the A475.

A planning application by Seren Energy, on behalf of Mr R Rees, has now been submitted to Ceredigion Council and will be decided by planners later.

It follows a similar but separate application for two 32-metre wind turbines at Prengwyn, which was withdrawn by the applicant.

People living nearby said they fear the plans were part of a “worrying trend” of single turbines across the landscape.

Phil Tipping, from Llanwenog said: “It will have a huge visual impact, noise impact and wildlife impact to the region.

“It will be visible from our home and surrounding areas, irrevocably spoiling the otherwise beautiful views of the Welsh landscape.”

Controls

He said they were not against wind power in principle, but added: “Commercial-sized turbines like this are bending the government initiative guidelines too far with little regard for the countryside, and should be confined to wind farms where stricter controls are in place.”

The objectors have now set up their own website at www.llanwenog.com

No-one from Seren Energy was available for comment.

Further down the Teifi Valley, plans have been submitted to Carmarthenshire Council for two wind turbines at Pen y Garn, Capel Iwan.

The applicant is Kevin Thomas, owner of the firm Kevin Thomas Windows, and the plans are for two 50 kilowatt turbines of 46 metres.
