Too much hot air

Renewable energy projects are hailed as good for America – but Cape Wind is not (“The scoop on wind,” April 7). Beyond the economics of the $2.6 billion Nantucket Sound plan, Cape Wind seems to have missed the message behind the “buy American” movement, which is dedicated to restoring and maintaining the long-term economic prosperity of our country by promoting and facilitating the practice of buying American. The turbines will not be built by General Electric, for example, but by Siemens, a German company. Moreover, the steel foundations that were supposedly going to be built in Massachusetts are now going to a European manufacturer. On top of that, Cape Wind is seeking loan guarantees backed by U.S. taxpayers. Apparently Cape Wind’s president, Jim Gordon, wants us to subsidize overseas jobs.
