Poland turns sour on large solar

Poland plans to reduce renewable energy subsidies and will now shun support for large solar projects, the country’s deputy economy minister Jerzy Pietrewicz has warned.

Pietrewicz says he will amend some of the proposals set out in Poland’s renewable energy draft law last October.

He claims technology advances will allow Poland to offer lower rates of support and help tackle the country’s ballooning budget deficit.

The development of wind and biomass will be encouraged, while solar backing will be limited and concentrate on smaller projects.

“Large photovoltaic farms are actually the expensive source of energy. We want to wait until it gets cheaper to fund such types of investment,” Pietrewicz says.
