Knockendurrick windfarm moves forward

Plans for a 10 turbine windfarm near Twynholm have moved a step forward.

Banks Renewables has submitted a scoping report to the council for their proposals at Knockendurrick.

The document claims that Dumfries and Galloway is ideal because “much of it experiences windspeeds which make windfarms commercially viable propositions”. It says Knockendurrick is particularly good because it lies outwith scenic areas and can be connected to the National Grid.

If the plans are given the go ahead, the development – featuring 132m tall turbines – would take one to two years to build with Banks proposing to upgrade roads linking the site to the A75.

Development director Colin Anderson said: “The scoping report sets out an initial framework for the Knockendurrick windfarm and is a key staging post in the development of the planning application which we will eventually submit.

“The considerations highlighted here are by no means set in stone and we will be working with the council and the community councils surrounding the site to develop these further and offer a wind farm design which is acceptable to as many people as possible.

“Not only do we want to create a windfarm which will provide an abundance of renewable energy but we also want to ensure the local community can benefit as much as possible from the scheme and one way of doing so is through a partnership approach.

“It’s been very pleasing to see the recent positive feedback we’ve received to the ongoing development of this scheme from a significant number of local people.”
