The future of a large windfarm development in north Ceredigion is in doubt after the company behind it said it wanted to know the “ambitions” for Welsh renewable energy before continuing with the scheme.

SSE Renewables has said it delayed lodging a development consent order for the 62-turbine windfarm it has proposed for Nant y Moch after considering the “investment climate”.

Ann West, of the Cambrian Mountains Society, said the decision would be welcomed throughout the area by those who claim the development would ruin the local landscape.

A statement from SSE Renewa-bles said the company had carefully considered the current situation but that it was “likely” that it would not make any further investment into the Nant y Moch development.

Madeline Cowley, the onshore development project manager, said: “As part of the planning process we have been finalising a development consent order application.

Following an internal project review, we have decided to delay the submission of the DCO application to the planning inspectorate as we are continuing discussions with key stakeholders to resolve outstanding issues.“
