A parliamentary candidate highlighted concerns over windfarms during a meeting with the Prime Minister last week.

Anne-Marie Trevelyan, the Conservative candidate for Berwick, met David Cameron on Thursday and spoke to him about the concerns communities in rural Northumberland often have about windfarms and how they are sited.

Following the meeting, she was encouraged that reports will be published this summer into the future costs of this technology and how local communities have more of a say on and keep more of the economic benefits from windfarms.

This followed a call for evidence from the Government into how the system currently works and how it can be improved.

Anne-Marie said: “I will always fight to make sure communities in Northumberland, especially rural ones, have their voices heard on windfarms.

“I want our taxpayers’ money to be spent supporting renewable technology which is economic and effective, and does not lead to higher bills for our poorest residents.”

The Conservative county council group leader, Coun Peter Jackson, also took the opportunity to speak to Mr Cameron about windfarms.
