Chapman’s Howe proposals reduced

Plans for a windfarm between Kirkcudbright and Castle Douglas have been scaled down.

Cornish firm REG Windpower had been proposing to build four 107m tall turbines at Chapman’s Howe.

But after a series of consultation meetings, they are now only planning to install three turbines, with a reduced height of 100m.

The new plans will go on display towards the end of April. Development manager Jim Wood said: “REG Windpower really value local input into our proposals and that is why following feedback from the community we cut the number of proposed turbines from four to three.

“The upcoming public exhibitions will now give local people a chance to view our revised proposals in detail and give us further feedback.”

The firm are proposing to create a community benefit fund which could be worth £34,500 a year – or more than £860,000 during the project’s 25-year lifetime. The money would go to local groups and projects.

Details of this, along with 3D models will be available at two public meetings. The first will be in Gelston Village Hall between 1-7.30pm on Friday, April 26, with the next in Kirkcudbright Town Hall between 10am and 3pm the following day.

Mr Wood added: “REG Windpower are particularly interested to hear the community’s views on how the community benefit fund offered as part of the development could be spent.”
