Controversial plans to build a wind turbine in Llannor, which campaigners say would be as tall as the Statue of Liberty, has been recommended for refusal.

The application to erect a 50-metre-column wind turbine with an attached rotor, taking the height to 74 metres, together with access track, crane pad and equipment cabinet at Bodvel Hall, is recommended for refusal by planners in Gwynedd before a meeting on Monday.

The application drew fierce opposition from the community, with over 100 letters of objection submitted. Objectors said the turbine would be visible from the Llŷn Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and that it would be an alien structure in the quiet rural area, causing visual damage to the landscape.

There were concerns that the turbine would be visible from a number of locations over 5km from the hills to the north and west, to the villages of Llannor, Llwyndyrus and Pentreuchaf to the east and Penrhos and Llanbedrog to the south.
