Neighbors of the Scituate wind turbine off the Driftway have hired an acoustical engineer from Michigan to study the turbine’s noise levels.

The neighbors, who claim the turbine has hurt their health, said Monday they hired E-Coustic Solutions of Okemos, Mich., to conduct a noise study they hope will run concurrently with separate testing commissioned by the town’s board of health.

Last week, the board of health hired Tech Environmental of Waltham to conduct a study – likely to start this month – using state testing standards to determine if the turbine is too loud. The study, to cost about $19,900, will be funded by Scituate Wind LLC, the turbine’s owner.

The turbine neighbors hired E-Coustic Solutions, at an undisclosed price, to measure the turbine’s low-frequency sound and amplitude modulation, factors that are not recognized by the state.

The neighbors want E-Coustic Solutions and Tech Environmental to test the turbine on the same nights. The board of health has said it will notify the neighbors of the testing times and locations, but it will not revamp its plans to appease the neighbors’ firm.
