Scandal of wind farm go-ahead

Wind energy can be an eco-friendly way of generating electricity when it is a small, community-based operation. But in north Carmarthenshire it has grown into a monster which is destroying our uplands and blighting people’s lives.
Local people mounted a fantastic campaign against the wind power station on Mynydd Llanllwni, and Carmarthenshire Planning Committee, to their great credit, turned it down.
But due to its slightly larger size, county planners had no say in the Brechfa West scheme and no notice was taken of local objection. This massive wind factory of 28 machines, each almost 500ft high, is being imposed on us by a UK Government minister in London.
It is unbelievable that Energy Minister Gregory Barker refused to visit Carmarthenshire to view the proposed site of such a huge development before giving it the go-ahead last week.
When challenged by Plaid MP Jonathan Edwards to visit Brechfa before making his decision, Mr Barker frivolously replied that he “could carry out his consideration in Whitehall or Kathmandu”.
Life will become a nightmare for local people; not just those living near these massive machines, but all who live near, or travel on, the A485 north of Carmarthen.
During the 18-month construction period, there’ll be thousands of heavy lorry journeys along this already busy road. The entrance will be only 150 yards from the present entrance to the Alltwalis wind farm. And how will the electricity be exported?
It’s feared that a new line of ugly pylons will be needed to take the power across Carmarthenshire to connect with the National Grid.
It is scandalous that Welsh people have no say in this industrialisation of the Carmarthenshire countryside and the destruction of people’s quality of life.
