Disputed turbines ‘could frighten horses’

A wind farm application is facing opposition from a Scottish Government planning adviser because it could startle horses.
The concerns emerged during a public inquiry into plans for two large wind turbines near an equestrian centre in rural Banffshire.
Aberdeenshire Council initially rejected the application for the turbines at Newton of Foulzie, near Banff, following a campaign by residents and firms including Balhagan Equestrian Services.
Public inquiry reporter Douglas Hope concluded: ‘It would be naïve to think that the proposed turbines would have no effect on the behaviour of some horses at the stables and adjoining roads, which are less than 100 metres from the turbines.’
He added that the proposal was already unacceptable on the grounds of visual impact.
Tory MEP Struan Stevenson welcomed the comments, saying: ‘The reporter has clearly set a precedent.’
