A timeline of windmills in other Massachusetts communities

FALMOUTH

May 2012: After noise test proves one of town’s two turbines is too noisy, state orders that it be shut down. As a result, it no longer operates at night.

February 2013: Selectmen vote in support of taking down both turbines following persistent complaints from residents who say the turbines are hurting their health.

April 2013: Town meeting voters to decide on temporary tax hike in order to remove turbines.

FAIRHAVEN

May 2012: After two turbines start spinning, town is flooded by hundreds of complaints about noise, health impacts.

October 2012: State Department of Environmental Protection tests sound impact of turbines.

March 2013: State says October test results were tainted, and study is ongoing.

CHARLESTOWN

2012: Wind turbine is shut down for several months after part of its foundation sank into ground, raising concerns about its structural integrity.
