Wind farm health woes ‘absolutely genuine’

ABC News | 22 March 2013 | www.abc.net.au

Supporters of the belief that wind farms could cause health issues have hit back at research that suggests the problems could be the result of anti-wind farm lobbying.

In unpublished research, professor Simon Chapman from the University of Sydney has found scaremongering about the health effects of wind farms could actually be causing people to develop symptoms.

Mary Morris conducted a noise impact survey of residents near the Waterloo wind farm in mid-north South Australia.

She believes the development causes genuine problems, with some people only prepared to speak out since the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) has said it would investigate.

“Now they realise that there’s hope that the EPA are looking at it, a whole lot more people have come out of the woodwork and said, ‘look, I want to be involved – this is what’s happening to me’,” she said.

“Country people basically take it on the chin but this is so bad they’re not going to any more.

“It’s absolutely genuine – these people are really badly affected – not all of them but the ones that are it’s really ruined their life.”
