Plans for large scale windfarms blown out by East Lothian Council

East Lothian News | 18 March 2013 | www.eastlothiannews.co.uk

Most of East Lothian has been ruled out as being suitable for further development of large scale windfarms by council planning chiefs.

Speaking at a meeting of the cabinet on Tuesday, Ian Glen, policy and projects manager, said other than the Monynut area, south west of Oldhamstocks, where 19 wind turbines were to be installed, the rest of the county should be identified as an ‘Area of Significant Restraint.’

This, he explained, would mean that windfarms over 12 megawatts – equivalent to four of the larger 125 metre turbines at Aikengall near Dunbar – would not be supported.

Draft planning guidance for windfarms of more than 12 megawatts has been drawn up by the council and this will now go out to public consultation for a period of not less than six weeks.
