Wind power is coming under fire in the Town of Orangeville, N.Y., as a result of concerns about the health impact on citizens in close proximity of sites targeted for construction of turbines. A group of 150 citizens recently hired prominent attorney Richard Lippes to represent them in trying to stop construction of the Stony Creek Wind Plant in Wyoming County

A wind power developer, Invenergy, has filed a plan to construct almost 60 wind turbines, each in excess of 420 feet tall, to generate electricity. Citizens joining in the class action contend the machines will be built too close to homes, resulting in sound waves that can harm to human health with extended exposure.

Lippes claims that Invenergy as well as property owners who have signed leases for the project could all be sued for damages due to health impacts and a loss of quality of life. Members of the New York State Public Service Commission will weigh the citizens’ concerns.
