Pontardawe Town Council wind farm discussion

Members of a town council in the Swansea Valley have been invited to view a new wind farm in their backyard.

Mynydd y Betws Wind Farm, which has been built near Cwmgors, will officially open on April 1.

Members of Pontardawe Town Council were told by their clerk: “The council was advised by representatives from the Irish electricity firm, ESB, that they would be happy for any council member to visit the site to view the work carried out.”

Council members wishing to visit the wind farm were asked to contact the clerk to arrange a visit.

Councillors have also been told that work to widen the town’s roads to allow the huge lorries, transporting components for the wind farm, were close to being reversed.

The clerk said: “With regard to the roundabouts and street furniture at Pontardawe, the organisation was awaiting final agreement to their plans for reinstatement from Neath Port Talbot Council which the hoped would be received in the next few weeks.”

Councillors also wanted to recommend that in future wind farm construction companies should be encouraged to invite local school children to activities at the sites to promote an understanding of green energy.
