Board hires firm to conduct wind park sound study

The firm hired to conduct a required sound survey for Lake Winds Energy Park will enter homes in the area for some of its measurements and study.

In fact, that was a big selling point for the Mason County Board of Commissioners committee that recommended the contract with HGC – not to exceed $38,425 – be approved by the full board.

Board Chair Chuck Lange said he was on the committee and HGC was the only applicant for the survey that would enter homes for study.

“I think we need to do this properly,” Lange said.

Commissioner Janet Andersen said Mason County Zoning/Planning Director Mary Reilly confirmed the company would conduct part of the study inside homes and representatives would attend planning commission meetings and the public would have input in the study.

Commissioner Tom Posma noted that Consumers Energy will pay the cost of the survey.

The post construction survey is required by the Mason County Zoning Ordinance.
