Folk in Upper Nithsdale have thrown their support behind a windfarm application in their back yard.

Sanquhar Community Council and Kirkconnel Village Pride have written to the Scottish Government asking them to approve the Sandy Knowe Wind Farm.

The 30-turbine development would rake in £11.25m for the area over its 25-year-lifetime.

Kirkconnel and Kelloholm Community Council have also said they are in favour of the application submitted by Burcote Wind in December.

Burcote operations director Fraser Campbell said: “We’re very grateful to have such strong support from the local community.”

The vast majority of local people backed the main areas suggested for support from the £450,000-per-year community benefit fund associated with the project including measures to stimulate economic growth.
