Last ditch protest over turbine plan

Protesters who are opposed to a wind farm being built outside Linslade have formerly presented their views to Aylesbury Vale District Council.

Members of the Stop Dorcas Lane Turbines (SDLT) action group attended council offices to hand over their objections to four giant wind turbines being erected on land close to Stoke Hammond.

The scheme, which has been submitted by Force 9 Energy/Electricité de France, is set to be discussed by district councillors next Wednesday.

The applicants claim that the turbines would generate significant electricity but SLDT say that their figures have been exaggerated, and that there will be damage to public health, safety, landscape, wildlife habitats, residential and visual amenity, local businesses and the rural communities of six villages.

“It’s the wrong development in the wrong place for the wrong reasons,” said SDLT vice-chairman Joseph Cresswell. “There is widespread opposition to the plans from thousands of local residents and a unanimous front from all six affected parish councils, as well as Aylesbury Vale District Council’s own senior landscape architect and its Green Spaces Team. AVDC has received 2,147 signatures to date on our petition and 1001 letters of objection.

“In contrast, there have been just 13 letters sent to the council from genuinely local people in support of the plans – and three of those are from the landowners who stand to profit from the scheme. We make the case that the committee cannot sanction a development which conflicts with so many planning policies and in some cases would lead to illegal activity by the applicant. ”
