Growing group gets ready to fight plans

Northumberland Gazette | 2 March 2013 | www.northumberlandgazette.co.uk

A north Northumberland group fighting windfarm expansion is preparing its growing membership for a continued protest against two schemes near Belford.

Middleton Burn Action Group (MBAG), which has seen its ranks swell to include more than 400 members, is fighting the proposed Belford Burn and Middleton Burn windfarms.

Speaking at the AGM earlier this month, chairman Chris Craddock said the group would have to react to the county council’s core strategy, part of which relates to industrial-scale wind generation and in particular the separation between such schemes and housing. He added this was a longer-term issue.

“Probably more immediate is the anticipated decision from the Planning Inspectorate on the Belford Burn mast,” he said.

“We also anticipate both EnergieKontor and Middleton Burn seeking planning permission for their turbine developments. These will be opportunities to take positive action.”
