Anti-wind protestors demonstrate

While the battle raged inside the Huron County Courthouse, about two hundred protestors braved the cold outside, many with new Premier Kathleen Wynne’s name pasted on their placards.

Dave Hemingway, of the group Safe Wind Energy for All Residents, organized the protest Friday, with demonstrators coming from Toronto, Hamilton, the Niagara Peninsula and Southwestern Ontario.

Activists began arriving just after 8am.

A number from the protest then left their signs at the Courthouse steps and occupied the fifty available courtroom seats for the day-long drama in support of ACW couple Shawn and Trisha Drennan, who want to halt the 270 megawatt K2 development.

Lorrie Gillis made the trip from Flesherton in Grey County.

Gillis says she faces the same problem of being surrounded by the wind turbines.

Stan Frankovich, a protestor from North Middlesex, thinks residents are being held hostage by a get-rich-quick scheme for the few.

Frankovich was impressed with the number who came to show their solidarity, and says there would have been a much bigger crowd, had it not been a work day.
