Wind turbine protest

Yass Tribune | Feb. 28, 2013 | www.yasstribune.com.au

Around 40 people gathered outside the Soldiers Club this afternoon to protest against a meeting for prospective wind turbine hosts.

The NSW Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH) held the meeting with local residents who had expressed an interest in hosting wind turbines.

It was their neighbours who stood outside the club boasting placards that read ‘No wind turbines’ and ‘Wind farms belong in the desert’.

“There’s a very strong, growing community backlash against these turbines,” Bookham farmer Mark Glover said.

He said residents not hosting turbines found out about the meeting two days ago.

“They could’ve invited us to the meeting as well,” he said.

“We’ve had a very big turn out for two days notice, on a weekday, in the rain,” Mr Glover said.

The OEH said the meeting was held because landowners had been in touch wanting to know more information.
