CCE wind turbine decision

KICD | kicdam.com

After months of consideration the Clay Central Everly School Board has voted to get out of the wind energy production game.

Superintendent Dennis McClain tells KICD News the district will now be accepting bids to remove their wind turbine.

The district received a within budget $109,000 bid to install a fully remanufactured wind turbine. However a majority of the board voted to reject the bids as they noted some opposition from district patrons and the question of should the district be in the wind energy production business was brought up.

The sentiment seemed that if the board could receive some sort of guarantee that additional operational problems would not pop up in future years, they would have been comfortable moving forward with accepting the bid. A 1-year warranty was included in the bid with a $1,500 yearly maintenance plan for the next five years. Board member Curt Langner shared this feeling.

It was noted that it would cost roughly $5,000 for each year added on to the warranty.

The board voted 4-1 to reject all bids with Dave Saboe noting his desire to accept the bid for the remanufactured wind turbine.
