Call to reject turbine plan

A Tory councillor has urged the city planning committee to reject plans for wind turbines on the banks of the Trent at Clifton.

Officials have advised the committee to reject the University of Nottingham’s proposals for two 126m turbines at Grove Farm, between Clifton and Beeston Rylands, when it meets tomorrow.

And Clifton North councillor Tim Spencer said: “I hope they make the right choice for residents of Clifton and our neighbours and vote against these proposals.”

The university say the turbines would produce a third of its electricity every year.

In October, Broxtowe borough councillors refused permission for one of the turbines because it would be too close to the Boots site, which could be developed for housing in the future.
